Your chosen house design is almost perfect. In fact, it’s like something out of a dream. But it’s not there yet.

It still needs a little something! A certain je ne sais quoi. After all, you want your home to be exactly what you had in mind.

But how do you take it up a notch? We have some expert suggestions!

– Make it More Practical

Chose an open plan living concept? While they usually work for different types of families, people still prefer having at least one intimate space so there’s some privacy. Adding details like a mudroom or a closet, a separate partition between the kitchen and the living room—these alterations can make a world of difference while maintaining the openness of the space.

– Connect it to the Theme of Your Home

Here’s an example: let’s say you have a rust-colored mid-western home. Utilize this theme and add elements of it inside as well

This will create a cohesive feel, inside and out, and will give you the satisfaction of knowing that despite being a pre-drawn home plan, there’s something personal to its design.

– Open Up the Area

If you love the outdoors, create a seamless transition by incorporating an outdoor/indoor patio. Use similar materials in both areas to create a consistent theme, but separate them by elevating the indoor patio.

This will create a transition area between the indoors and outdoors and will transform your indoor patio into a nook, rather than just a part of your outdoor patio.

– Highlight the Assets

Let’s say your floor plan allows for a perfect vantage point. Accentuate that feature throughout your home. If it’s a custom plan, you will be able to make specific additions to it.

For instance, if you have a lot where you’ll be able to have the perfect view of the scenery from an elevated location, plan all your living spaces accordingly so you can enjoy the view from every room.
