The Grand Entry Real fir timber beams with inset T&G cedar. Notice the light valance around the perimeter with hidden rope light. The majestic mansion sits on an overlook waterfront lot on Idaho’s Lake Pend Oreille. North Idaho winters are harsh, especially on the north shore of the lake. This home is built to withstand the worst. First, the heavily treed lot was logged, opening the magnificent view. After excavation came huge footings to lock the house to the earth. The engineered foundation has over 170 yards of concrete and several tons of rebar. Some of the walls are 14 feet tall and 14 inches thick.Hundreds of tons of structural fill were imported and compacted into the foundation. After the concrete deck and basement are poured, the frame rises. Thick fir posts and beams support the upper deck and roof.Boulder retaining walls create the walkway between house and garage. A waterproof membrane seals the upper deck. A decorative concrete surface will follow, creating a dry roof over the patio below.Heavy gauge steel fascia trims the entire roof for a permanent finish. The exterior walls are wrapped with rigid foam insulation board to seal the home against the freezing winds.A faux stucco finish is applied over the foam board to complete the Exterior Insulated Finish System (EIFS).The mason expertly applies real quarried thin cut stone over all the column bases. The mass of timber and stone bearing on decorative concrete creates a feel of solid permanence. Floor trusses span the entire width of the lower level for a large open Rec Room, and a chase for all electrical, plumbing, and mechanical. All the floors have hydronic heating.Custom metal spiral stairs provide access to the upper deck.Decorative concrete dresses the upper deck. Custom cable rails surround.Awesome view to the lake and the mountains beyond. Below is the private dock and beach.Twelve foot wide folding NanaWalls on both levels open up the house to the decks on warm summer days. The Grand Entry Real fir timber beams with inset T&G cedar.
